My data was in the Qantas breach and I was too embarrassed to ask

I was just informed by our cyber team that my data is part of the Qantas breach. I honestly have no idea what to do or what to think. I was too embarrassed to ask for more information.

There is nothing embarrassing about being caught up in a data breach. We cannot stress this enough: this was not your fault. The Qantas breach originated from a cyber criminal targeting a third-party platform used by one of their contact centers. Millions of customer records were compromised, and the data involved varies per person but may include your name, email, Frequent Flyer number, date of birth, phone number, and address. Importantly, no credit card details, financial information, or passport numbers were exposed, and Frequent Flyer passwords and PINs were not compromised. If you haven't already, check your email, including spam and junk folders. Qantas sent notifications to affected customers outlining exactly what data of yours was involved. You can also log into your Qantas Frequent Flyer account to view this directly. In terms of what to do now: enable multi-factor authentication on your email and any accounts that share the same email address, watch for scam calls, texts, or emails pretending to be from Qantas (they will never ask for your password or payment details), and report anything suspicious to Scamwatch (scamwatch.gov.au). Qantas also has a dedicated 24/7 support line for affected customers on 1800 971 541. There is no shame in calling it. That is exactly what it is there for.
