Fake Meta Emails Are Locking People Out of Their Facebook Accounts
A large phishing campaign is tricking Facebook users into handing over their login details by sending urgent-looking emails that appear to come from Meta Support. Over 30,000 accounts have already been stolen.
## What's happening
Scammers are sending emails that look like they're from Meta Support, warning you that your Facebook account is about to be permanently deleted unless you take action immediately. The goal is to get you to click a link and hand over your password.
What makes these particularly convincing is that the emails actually arrive from a real Google address — so they slip past spam filters and look legitimate at a glance.
## What the emails look like
The messages tend to create a sense of urgency or panic. Common versions claim:
- Your account has been disabled or flagged - Someone filed a copyright complaint against your page - Your account is under a routine verification review - You've been shortlisted for a job at Meta, WhatsApp, or another major company
Each one is designed to make you act fast without thinking.
## What to do if you received one of these emails
Don't click any links in the email. Instead, go directly to facebook.com and log in from there. If there's actually an issue with your account, you'll see a notification when you sign in.
You can also report the email as phishing through your email provider.
## What to do if you already clicked
If you entered your password on a page you reached through one of these emails, act quickly:
1. Go to facebook.com/login and try to log in 2. If you can still access your account, change your password immediately and enable two-factor authentication 3. If you're locked out, visit facebook.com/hacked for Facebook's official account recovery process 4. Check if any pages, ads, or payment methods were accessed
